Staging a Ballet with Dance Notation
One of my jobs as a choreologist was to write the score for Bronislava Nijinska’s Ballet Les Noces from a previous Royal Ballet production. Bronislava Nijinska was the sister of Nijinsky and a very innovative choreographer during the Diaghilev period.
The Notation Score is Used Anywhere
When the score was finished, I was asked to stage Les Noces for Paris Opera Ballet and subsequently for several other companies like Dance Theatre of Harlem, a black dance company in New York. The video shown here was the Oakland Ballet production by Fred Maroth and directed by Jerome Shnur.
